A prayer for those visiting our website

Almighty and eternal God,
who created us in your own image
and gave us the will to seek after all that is good,
true and beautiful,
especially in the person of Our Lord Jesus Christ,
we give you thanks for the freedom of communication.
Grant, we pray you,
that through our journeys in this website we may be led to charity,
prayer, patience and greater understanding of each other
and that we may discern more closely,
your will for your pilgrims here on earth.
To the glory of the Word made Flesh.
Amen.

The DHCT walk was supported by about a dozen intrepid walkers under the guidance of Douglas Henderson and Sarah Gordon (to whom must be said a very grateful thank you).

This year’s route took us from St Mary’s Walkhampton onto the railway line and down towards Burrator Dam, crossing this to make our way to St Leonard’s Sheepstor. From there our route took us towards Meavy via Marchant’s Cross and the ford across the River Meavy. At St Peter’s Meavy we stopped for lunch before pressing on across Yennadon, Well Town and back to St Mary’s – around trip of about 6.5 miles – or so Douglas said – personally it felt like a lot longer…that’s how I felt about it the next day anyway!

The weather was very misty at first, but the rain largely held off. There was a shortage of panoramic views this year because of the weather but it was an enjoyable walk and the spin off was that funds were raised for both local parishes and Devon Historic Churches Trust.

ROBOROUGH YOUNG FARMERS' CLUB HELP OUT

Members of the RYFC helped rebuild the path to the new Graveyard at St Peter's Meavy. This community project was carried out by twelve members during a weekend in mid-September 2010. A black sheet was laid to prevent weeds followed by a load of gravel that was then raked to form a new pathway.  The idea was suggested by Joyce Williams and is in memory of the late Bill Williams who gave such great service to the church over the last fifty years.
